Why do We Need This Service?

Those residents of the South Shuswap who can’t drive or don’t have a car need to rely on friends and family to get where they want to go. Bus service in the area is not convenient, and there is no taxi or ride hailing available locally.

When is it available?

The service is available from 9:00 am till 5:00 pm Monday to Friday.

What does Our Service Cost?

There is no direct charge to use our services, however clients can make a donation to help cover the costs of the services they use. To view a schedule of suggested donations for various destinations click HERE. This schedule will also be posted in the car. Donations can be cash or a cheque, which can be given to the driver, or you can pay by E-transfer. Coming soon, the option to donate on our website.

Medical Appointments

Individuals needing a ride to medical appointments in Salmon Arm, Vernon, Kelowna or Kamloops can book a ride with South Shuswap Rides. As our service is on a first come-first serve basis, any critical medical appointments or tests should be booked as far in advance as possible.

With COVID-19 protocols in place, we are only able to provide service to one client at a time. However, those clients who need assistance getting to and from the car and at their appointment can be accompanied by a another person.

Eye Exams and Cataract Surgery

Individuals needing a ride to eye exam appointments in Salmon Arm, or cataract surgery in Armstrong or Vernon can book a ride with South Shuswap Rides.

Prescription & Care Aids Pickup

This service is available when the pharmacy does not have a delivery option or they cannot provide delivery promptly. Prescriptions must be ordered and paid for in advance and are ready for pickup. Please note medical aids such as crutches, wheelchairs, walkers and bath aids are available from the Red Cross in Salmon Arm for a small donation.

Shopping & Banking

Individuals who have no other transportation available can book trips to local businesses or to visit their financial institution. Where possible, orders should be placed online in advance for pickup only. Please note the Blind Bay Village Grocer has a delivery option available for $10.
